My Story

From Typing Letters to Leading Teams: My Journey to Scrum Mastery

Quality has always been my North Star, ever since I was 16, sitting in a dusty office at the local school district, armed with a typewriter and a whole lot of ambition. Picture this: a high school student in a work-study program, taking dictation and typing letters for the Director of the Construction Department. While my friends were flipping burgers or babysitting, I was watching engineers manage the development of new schools. Little did I know, that experience would be my first taste of project management—and I wasn’t even old enough to drive yet!

Fast forward a few years, and I found myself navigating the fast-paced world of banking. I started as a contractor, processing closing documents in the mortgage department by day, and by night, I’d hustle downstairs to process checks for another financial institution. Talk about multitasking! But that was just the beginning.

My tech skills were calling, and soon I was hired as a desktop publisher and graphic designer. It wasn’t long before I was running a department with four employees under my wing. We were a small team, but we were mighty—every pixel and every typo mattered. In that environment, the mantra was simple: “Quality or bust.” Trust me, in that world, a typo or a misplaced word by even a centimeter could land you a pink slip. Four pink slips later, you were having an uncomfortable chat with HR. Needless to say, I learned the importance of getting it right the first time!

My knack for precision landed me the role of lead developer for medical forms and designing checks for financial institutions. But why stop there? I decided to take my tech skills, design expertise, and unwavering commitment to quality on the road—literally. I packed up and moved to Florida, where I snagged a gig as a Digital Marketing Specialist for a beverage company. A few ad campaigns later, I was promoted to Digital Marketing Manager, running the show and overseeing the company’s entire advertising strategy.

But the story doesn’t end there. My web skills were itching for a bigger challenge, and soon I found myself as a Web Administrator for one of the largest automobile companies in North America. It was a thrilling ride, but my journey took another turn when a former colleague reached out with an intriguing offer: to help start a development company for a fintech firm. That’s how I landed at GreenSky, where I now blend my technical expertise, design savvy, and passion for quality as I take on Scrum Master responsibilities.

So, here I am today, bringing together everything I’ve learned—from typing letters and designing checks to leading teams and managing complex projects. My diverse background and relentless focus on quality have shaped me into a Scrum Master who’s not just focused on getting things done, but getting them done right. I’ve worn a lot of hats, and I’m ready to bring that experience to your team, with a smile and maybe a few laughs along the way.
